Last Nite: Lesser Gods and Morrison Hotel Gallery celebrate The Strokes: The First Ten Years.
(October 25, 2017). Luminaries from the music, photography, fashion and design worlds gathered together at the Morrison Hotel Gallery on Prince Street Tuesday night to celebrate the launch of Cody Smyth’s acclaimed new photo retrospective on New York’s last great rock ’n’ roll band, The Strokes: The First Ten Years.
Attendees enjoyed drinks by Sailor Jerry and Old Blue Last while taking in the historic rock photo collection inside the Morrison Hotel’s famed Soho gallery space. The stylish crowd included beauty mogul Linda Rodin, design impresario Tucker Viemeister, Strokes manager Ryan Gentles, Beata Henrichs-Lieb and Jodi Lahaye of Hedgehouse, writer and radio host Jenny Eliscu, and Matthew Hitt, lead singer of The Drowners.
Excited fans got a special treat when Nikolai Fraiture of The Strokes stopped by with his brother Pierre to congratulate his old friend Cody. Both fans and friends alike came away with signed copies of the book and even some never-before-seen limited edition prints of the band.
The celebrated book features intimate photos of The Strokes going all the way back to their formative years at the Dwight School on the Upper West Side to their seminal early shows on the Lower East Side and onto their triumphant world tours, with essays by Roman Coppola, Jay McInerney, Marc Spitz, and Claude Franques. This is Cody Smyth’s first book.
